OUR GOAL IS TO END THE PRACTICE OF SLAVERY AND INVOLUNTARY SERVITUDE IN COLORADO

Prisons across Colorado are in violation of our state constitution, exploiting and torturing imprisoned people with this disgusting practice. State laws need to be changed to align with the will of the people. Colorado can lead the nation and become the first state in the union to truly, finally, abolish slavery. Our strategy includes:

  1. Building a public awareness campaign to grow community support for the Lilgerose Mortis v. Polis lawsuit

  2. Increasing public pressure on Gov. Polis, Dean Williams (head of CO Dept of Corrections), and AG Weiser to settle the Lilgerose Mortis lawsuit and end the use of involuntary prison labor

  3. Shifting the narrative around labor in CO prisons by putting a human face on the realities of prison slavery.

  4. Advancing a vision built by people with lived experience of how eliminating involuntary prison labor can be a very good thing for Colorado (real rehabilitation, less recidivism, safer communities.... the list goes on)

  5. Passing policy which implements our vision
